the third installment of silent movie sounds series features music from four producers each delivering a different cut of deep, hypnotic music. japanese artist mituo shiomi is a regular on simoncino s hotmix records. he kicks off the va with a mesmerizing house track. fresh from his ep on fina records, detroit-based producer appian contributes a thumping track to this 12inch. russian producer alex danilov returns to rhr with a love story to acid. last but not least, the chicagobased coowner of perpetual rhythms, nick marshall aka taelue closes the ep with a deep and emotional track with a solid kick and smooth synth lines.

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.

mystery man l.f.t. delivers the second ep for woodwork. his poignant debut wood002 includes three original tracks and a remix by benedikt frey. a1 is a dreamy rhodes journey roughened up by distorted 808 sounds. a2 is a melodic house track with a bubbly bassline juxtaposed against crunchy drums. on the flipside, b1 will take you into a laid-back acid house trip fueled by tons of escorial. benedikt frey then twists the track into a trippy techno journey on b2.

aaaas debut album *shiva watts* sounds both vivid and complex, capturing the raw energy of the mexican producers praised live performances at mutek, boiler room and elsewhere. it is a direct result of tireless, disciplined experimentation with analogue hardware. the 16 tracks on *shiva watts*, which is available for the first time ever on vinyl through the berlin-based antime label, take their cues from a variety of musical styles, most notably acid, combining elements of hard-hitting techno, textural idm, dry-but-funky electro and trance-inducing house with lush ambient-leaning interludes. *shiva watts* is an album which celebrates stylistic and emotional ambiguity, which provides the perfect soundtrack for a world yet to come - and everything that will follow after that. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!

hailing from berlin, but spiritually from chi-town, snuff crew are back in your area with some freshly served up basement goodies once again. following on from basement jams #1, from all the way back in 2011, the boys bring us tracks with the same playful nature as before but, dare i say it, they go even harder this time. stalwart fans of the first release can stop reading now because it will almost certainly be a blind-buy for you, four tracks obviously engineered for use in the club, whether its the massive kick in ‘what it is’ or the ravey acid lead in ‘88cents’. the jams on the b-side may do the most damage. ‘remember’ holds absolutely nothing back, with its arpeggiated bassline lead and crisper than crisp 909 drum programming. analog is a term that gets bandied about all the time nowadays, ever since so many young producers became enamoured with tape compression and hiss delay plug-ins. i know snuff crew are real analog guys though, in sound and mentality, so hearing basement jams #2 for the first time had me so excited once again.

june records presents guilty pleasure by dimdj. dimdj is a recording artist from thessaloniki, greece and a veteran dj in the greek underground scene. he is also a member of the groups anopolis and audio atlas. this record consists of live acid house recordings on the a side while on the b side the atmosphere is more cosmic.

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums

when acid meets the groove it results in this fruity cocktail of sounds freshly concocted in the studio of alexis cabrera in venice. with the collaboration of mattia bison: this young italian producer who, after long experimentation with synthesizers and drum machines, discovered the right ingredient that give shape to the two original tracks “give the hype” and houseloide for his debut 12” vinyl release. we are proud to welcome mauricio barembuem to our label, barem’s remix for give the hype ep is warm, loopy, hypnotic and so acid as our emblematic orange kumquat fruit! for your decks!

ednic is the italian duo of nicola di gabbia and edoardo cortopassi, and by all intents and purposes, they’re an outfit that’s on to a good thing right now. the guys make quality, analog-enriched house and techno, the likes of which comes to the fore here on puas puas, a vinyl only label that’s already featured the likes of the mole, alex piccini and carola pisaturo amongst others. first up on the exceptionally refined strands of the auberste ep sis the sounds of the original, which is a barnstorming cacophony of acid flourishes and tension-filled motifs. a track that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for some time, it features shades of old-school electro and techno, and is the sort of track that’ll definitely rescue any ailing dancefloor. the aforementioned carola pisaturo then perks up with the first of her two remixes courtesy of her brilliant ‘church’ mix. a bumping and grinding interpretation on the original, it too keeps the suspense high, most notably thanks to a dizzying array of melodies and a series of potent basslines. her ‘botta’ remix is a more stripped back affair, albeit one that still speaks to fans of discerning fare thanks to its relentless attitude. full of shiny percussion and the odd sultry vocal smidgen, it’s further indication of a producer who looks set to enjoy an excellent 2015. this is classy stuff indeed from the puas puas label.

flumo limited returns in the form of a translucent blue 10 inch, slice of blue acid from el_txef_a. the release features 2 originals that incorporatesthe emotive and deep vocals of terence mckenna and is packed full off 303 beats, ready to do the work on the dance floor. side a of this double sider comes in the form of ‘neurotransmitters communication’, a 9 minute roller which blends heavy bass beats and piercing vocals into on ocean of squelching undertows. for side b, el_txef_a presents us with ‘fear vs love’, intertwining flutters of break beat around chugging acid melodies, and leaving the listener with a perfect combiantion of sonics. this is one piece of wax that is almost certainlly an essential for your record bag, a homage to the warehouse raves of times past and a melting pot of acid acoustics.
